Fatal Train Collision

On 7/15/16 at around 1:30pm Brattleboro Police, fire, and rescue responded to a report that a subject had been struck on the tracks by an Amtrak train. The call was made to Brattleboro dispatch by Amtrak. Arriving units discovered the body of a woman on the tracks approximately halfway between the Veteran's Memorial Bridge and Walnut Street in Brattleboro.

Preliminary investigation shows that an adult woman was struck by a southbound passenger train. The train activated its emergency brakes and stopped some distance after the collision. The train was delayed and remained on scene for several hours. Amtrak Police responded and assisted with the investigation.

The deceased woman has been identified by police but her name is not being released at this time pending notification of family. No foul play is suspected. Additional information will be released at a later time, including the name and age of the decedent and the cause and manner of her death.
