Matthew T. Martin, age 31, of Springfield Vermont
Detective LT Carrier
On December 14, 2015 members of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to the Peoples United Bank on Main Street for a reported bank robbery.
Preliminary information learned at the scene was that a female was alleged to have robbed the bank using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and also displayed a handgun. The robber threatened the bomb would go off if any alarms were activated. The robber was given cash and then fled the bank in unknown direction of travel.
The Vermont State Police Bomb Squad was requested and responded to the scene as well as additional resources from the VSP. It was later determined the device was a hoax device.
Through investigation it was believed the female robber was not a female but was believed to be Matthew T. Martin, age 31, of Springfield Vermont posing as a female.
Martin was believed to be responsible for other robberies in Vermont and New Hampshire.
During the early morning hours on December 27, 2015, Martin turned himself in to authorities without incident in Weathersfield Vermont.
Martin is currently being held at the Southern State Correctional Facility on $50,000.00 bail pending his arraignment for Assault and Robbery, Larceny from a Person, and Placing a Hoax Device for the Peoples United Bank robbery in Brattleboro.
