Amtrak Death

Detective LT Carrier

On November 1, 2015 at 13:11 hours, members of the Brattleboro Police Department and Emergency Services responded to the area of the North Bridge in Brattleboro.

The multi-agency response was for a report of two subjects who were attempting to cross the railroad bridge.  While they were on the bridge the operator of an Amtrak train traveling southbound observed the two persons on the track.  Emergency stop procedures were initiated and preliminary results of the investigation indicates one of the persons appeared to have been struck by the train as it passed by.  The train stopped further down the tracks and emergency services were notified and responded to the scene.

The person who is believed to have been struck is identified as Nicholas O. Widomski, age 26, of Brattleboro.  The second person on the tracks is identified as Harrison H. Johnson, age 22, of Marlboro.

Widomski was transported to the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.  Johnson sustained minor injuries and was released from the scene.

Widomski will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington Vermont where an autopsy will be performed.

The death is currently being investigated by the Amtrak Police and Brattleboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.

Any further request for information pertaining to this incident should be directed to the Amtrak Police Department.
