Scam Alert

Date of Incident: 12/09/13

On 12/09/2013 the Brattleboro Police Department took a report from a local business owner regarding an attempted scam. The complainant was called by a man who claimed to be a representative from Green Mountain Power. This man claimed that the complainant's power was going to be shut off if they did not provide them with a certain amount of money via the form of "money cards."
 
This incident was verified to be a scam. The Brattleboro Police are advising that if any such call is received, to make contact with your respective power company to verify the information.

Criminal Contempt

Jonathan P. McAuliffe 32 y/o male from Brattleboro, VT

On 12/09/2013 Brattleboro Police cited McAuliffe for Criminal Contempt after McAuliffe was found to have violated his court-ordered Conditions of Release. McAuliffe was cited to appear in court at a later date to answer to this charge.

Stacy Squires

On December 3, 2013 Brattleboro Police responded to Price Chopper for a theft.  When police arrived they arrested Stacy Squiers for stealing multiple items from Price Chopper.  Squiers was released on a citation to appear in court on a later date and time.

Violation of Conditions of Release

Tanya Lee Maskell, 39, of Brattleboro

On 12/07/2013, Brattleboro officers responded to the Circle K on Canal St. regarding a woman throwing items out of a car.  Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Tanya Lee Maskell for violation of conditions of release.  Maskell will appear in court at a later time to face the charge.

Christopher J. Lanese 36 y/o male from Bellows Falls, VT

On 12/06/2013 Brattleboro Police responded to the area of Flat St. for a report of an intoxicated male. Upon arrival Lanese was located on Elm St. and was found to be intoxicated, in violation of his court-ordered conditions of release. Lanese was also found to be in violation of a curfew. Lanese was taken into custody without incident for Criminal Contempt and was cited to appear in court at a later date to answer to this charge.

Arrest on Warrant

James Caro 29 y/o male from Brattleboro, VT

On 12/06/2013 Brattleboro Police arrested James Caro on South Main St. for having an outstanding arrest warrant, stemming from the charge of Sale of Cocaine. Caro was lodged at the Brattleboro Police Department for lack of $5,000.

Criminal Contempt

Seth D. Carrasquillo 36 y/o male from Brattleboro, VT

Carrasquillo was cited by the Brattleboro Police for criminal contempt after violating his court-ordered conditions of release. Carrasquillo will appear in court at a later date to answer to this charge.

Simple Assault / Unlawful Mischief

Date of Incident: 11/26/13

Corey S. Russell, 27, of Brattleboro, VT

On 11/26/13 at approximately 16:54, the Brattleboro Police responded to a residence on Marlboro Road for a report of an assault that had occurred.  After the investigation was completed, Corey S. Russell, 27, of Brattleboro, was arrested for Simple Assault and Unlawful Mischief.  He was released on a citation and conditions of release.

Welfare check

Date of Incident: 12/5/13

Officer Sgt. Carignan

39 year old woman

On 12/5/13 at around 11:20am Brattleboro Police responded to 15 Valley Street to check the welfare of a subject.  Vermont Health Care and Rehabilitation Services (HCRS) had called the police and asked for assistance in checking on the subject.  Two police officers and the BPD social worker responded.
 
While on scene, the subject attempted to harm herself.  While struggling with officers she retrieved a large kitchen knife, about ten inches long, and threatened to kill herself.  Police used force, including physical blows and a baton strike, to gain control of the woman. 


Once the woman was controlled, she was taken to BMH for treatment.  The uniform jacket of one officer was cut during the struggle, but no officers were injured.
 
No criminal charges have been filed in this case.

Fugitive from Justice

Crustal M. Magnuson 24 y/o female from Brattleboro, VT

On 12/04/2013 Brattleboro Police took Magnuson into custody on Clark St. without incident as a Fugitive from Justice. Magnuson is wanted in the State of Connecticut for Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle. Magnuson was lodged at the Brattleboro Police Department on $2,500 bail and will appear in the Windham Superior Court: Criminal Division on 12/05/2103 to answer to this charge.

Embezzlement

Heidi M. Chandler 38 y/o female from Brattleboro, VT

On 11/29/2013 Brattleboro Police responded to the G Housen company for a reported theft. Further investigation resulted in Heidi M. Chandler being cited for Embezzlement. Chandler was cited to appear in the Windham Superior Court: Criminal Division at a alter date to answer to this charge.

On 11/20/13, Brattleboro Police responded to a residence on Valley Road for a citizen dispute.  Investigation led to Wojchick being issued a citation to appear in court for disorderly conduct.

Tyler Hamilton (10/2/92)

On 11/30/13, Police responded to a residence in Ledgewood Heights were they located Tyler Hamilton.  Hamilton had an active arrest warrant in Vermont.  He was taken into custody without incident and held without bail.

On 11-27-13, Brattleboro officers responded to the River Garden on Main St. regarding an assault.  Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Donald J. Reetz, Jr., for Violation of Conditions of Release.  Reetz will appear in court to face the charge at a later time.

Retail Theft

Scott L. Fontaine, 26, of Winchester NH

On 11-23-13, Brattleboro Officers responded to the Hannaford grocery store on Putney Rd regarding a shoplifter.  Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Scott L. Fontaine for Retail Theft.  Fontaine will appear in court at a later date to face the charge.

Toys for Tots "Stuff the Humvee"

The Windham County Sheriff's Department in collaboration with the Brattleboro Police Department, Brattleboro Fire Department, Dover Police Department, Rescue Inc, and the Vermont State Police are going to be hosting a TOYS FOR TOTS event.

This event will take place on December 14th, 2013 from 10:00am until 4:00pm in the Price Chopper parking lot on Canal Street in Brattleboro.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. Our hope is to receive enough toys to stuff the Windham County Sheriff's Department Humvee and provide for many families in need in the Windham County area.

During the event on December 14th, we will have fire trucks, police cruisers, an ambulance, and other equipment on display! Come visit your local emergency service providers and bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate for a local child to enjoy.

Area residents are invited to donate toys any time between now and the December 14th event at these designated locations...

Domestic Assault

Date of Incident: 11/26/13

Jessica Reeves         Age: 18

On the above date at approximately 1045pm, Brattleboro Police responded to a residence on Martel Way for a reported family dispute. After an investigation was conducted, Jessica Reeves was arrested after it was determined that she had assaulted a family member. She was issued a citation to appear in Windham County Superior Court on 11/27/13.
