Domestic Assault

Linda Barry, 61, of Brattleboro

On 11-26-2013, Brattleboro Officers responded to a report of a family fight.  Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Linda Barry for Second Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault.  Barry will appear in court to face charges at a later date.

Disorderly Conduct, Unlawful Trespass, Unlawful Mischief

Trent Griffith (28) of Brattleboro, VT

The Brattleboro Police Department responded to a report of a male attempting to break into an apartment.  The male was located after running from the scene.  He was subsequently charged with Disorderly Conduct, Unlawful Mischief, Unlawful Trespass, Violation of an Abuse Prevention Order and Violation of Probation.  He will answer to these charges at a later date. 

Aggravated Domestic Assault

Nathan E. Hazlett (40) of Brattleboro, VT

On 11/22/13 Brattleboro Police Officers responded to an apartment at 125 Canal Street for a report of a dispute.  Following an investigation, Nathan Hazlett was arrested for several counts of aggravated domestic assault.
 
Hazlett was ordered held without bail until his arraignment on 11/25/13 at Vermont Superior Court - Windham.  He was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, VT.

Disorderly Conduct

Denise Madeja, 41 of Brattleboro
Michele Amsden, 44 of Brattleboro

On November 11, 2013 Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a report of a fight in progress.  Investigation led officers to believe that Denise Madeja, 41 of Brattleboro and Michele Amsden, 44 of Brattleboro had committed the offense of Disorderly Conduct.  Both Amsden and Madeja were cited to appear at court at a later date and time to answer to the charge.

Federal Search Warrant

During the early morning hours on November 21, 2013, Federal Authorities assisted by the Brattleboro Police Department implemented a federal search warrant at a residence on Western Avenue in Brattleboro.

As a result, Grant Klein age 33, was arrested and subsequently transported to Burlington Vermont pending his arraignment in Federal Court on charges of Possession of Child Pornography.

Request for additional information related to the investigation should be directed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Rutland Vermont office.

Credit Card Fraud

During the investigation of recent thefts from motor vehicles, Brattleboro Police identified another suspect. Police arrested and charged Brattleboro resident Robert Brennan. Brennan was charged with two counts of Credit Card Fraud. Brennan was released with a citation to appear at court on a later date.

Motor Vehicle Crash

Date of Incident: 11/19/13

Detective Griffus

On 11/18/2013 at approximately 20:52 hours, emergency services responded to the area of Goodenough Road and Hinesburg Road for a single motor vehicle crash with one occupant. The operator of that vehicle was identified as James Lannon, 60,. Lannon was operating his Chevrolet pick up truck when it left the roadway into a field colliding with two trees. Lannon was ejected from his vehicle during the crash. Lannon was treated on scene by emergency services, transported to the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where he was flown Dartmouth Medical Center, NH to be treated for injuries. Lannon is currently listed as in critical condition at this time. Speed is considered as a contributing factor. At this time the crash is still under investigation as to other contributing factors.

Operating After Suspension of License

On 11/19/2013 at approximately 11:21 hours, Brattleboro Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on South Main St. The operator, Claude J. Maillet Jr. was taken into custody without incident for being criminally suspended from operating a motor vehicle in the State of VT. Maillet Jr. was cited to appear in court at a later date to answer to this charge.

Retail Theft/Possession of Stolen Property

On Sunday, 11/17/2013 Brattleboro Police responded to the Sam's department store located on Main St. for a reported theft. Further investigation resulted in Thayer being cited for Retail Theft and Possession of Stolen Property. Thayer will appear in court at a later date to answer to these charges.

Motor Vehicle Crash

Date of Incident: 11/18/13

On 11/18/2013 at approximately 20:52 hours, emergency services responded to the area of Goodenough Road and Hinesburg Road for a single motor vehicle crash with one occupant. That occupant was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where the occupant was flown Dartmouth Medical Center NH to be treated for injuries. The crash is still under investigation, the condition of the operator is unknown at this time.

Arrest for Violation of Conditions of Release

On 11/17/13 the above subject reported to the Brattleboro Police Department as required by his court ordered conditions.  An investigation revealed that he had consumed alcohol in violation of those conditions.  The subject was arrested, processed, and released with a citation to appear in court on 12/31/13.

On 11/16/13 at approx. 1806 hours, Brattleboro Police were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle behind America's Best Inn.  During the investigations, Police learned that a passenger in the vehicle, Fontaine, had an active arrest warrant in Vermont.  He was taken into custody without incident and held in lieu of $750 bail.

On November 8, 2013 Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department received a call for a report of a man who was intoxicated.  Investigation showed that Donald Reetz, 45 of Brattleboro had violated his court ordered conditions of release.  Reetz was cited to appear at court at a later date and time to answer to the charge of criminal contempt.

DUI

On November 15, 2013 Officer Cable of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a minor motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route 9 in Brattleboro.  After determining that there was no damage or injuries, investigation showed that Richard Cannatta, 76 of Brattleboro, was operating his vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor.  Cannatta was arrested and transported to the Brattleboro Police Department where he was processed and released on a citation to appear at court to answer to the charge of Driving Under the Influence.

DUI

On 11/14/13 at approximately 2354 hours a vehicle Kyle Wells was operating was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Frost Place in the town of Brattleboro. After  initial investigation Wells was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating beverages. Wells was issued conditions of release and cited to appear at the Windham Superior Court Criminal Division on 12/31/13 at 0800 hours.

Retail Theft

Brattleboro Police responded to Price Chopper on Canal St. for a report of a suspicious female in the store.  The female, later identified as Harkness, was observed by employees placing items in her personal bag.  Harkness exited the store without paying for the items.  After a brief investigation Harkness was cited into Windham Superior Court (Criminal Division) for retail theft.  Harkness was also issued a trespass to not enter Price Chopper.  Harkness was then released.

Motor Vehicle Crash

Date of Incident: 11/14/13

On 11/14/13 at approximately 1656 hours, Brattleboro Police responded to a three vehicle crash with possible injury on Western Ave at Guilford Street.  One vehicle was located up against the guardrail by the Creamery Bridge, one was in the grassy area by Guilford St and one vehicle was found still in the roadway between the other two.  It was determined that Jill Cobb, 34 of Wilmington, was traveling west bound on Western Ave when she crossed the center line into the east bound lane.  Kayla Harris, 22 of Brattleboro, was traveling east bound when Cobb's vehicle struck the rear driver side of hers.  The force from this crash sent Harris' vehicle into west bound traffic, causing her vehicle to collide with a vehicle being operated by Melissa Page, 27 of Brattleboro, who was following Cobb.
 
Western Ave was closed for just over an hour.  Two people, to include a passenger in one of the vehicles, were transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Neither speed or alcohol are believed to be factors.  This incident remains under investigation.

Driving with a Suspended License

On the above date at approximately 0135am, Steven Harold was arrested for driving with a criminally suspended Vermont license following a traffic stop in the Brattleboro Co-op parking lot on Main Street. Harold was issued a citation to appear in Windham County Superior Court at a later date.

Theft/Credit Card Fraud

James Smith/ Arthur Jacobs IV 35/18

Brattleboro Police have been investigating numerous thefts from motor vehicles. The investigation led to James Eric Smith and Arthur Jacobs IV and Crystal Jobe. All three suspects were taken into custody by Brattleboro Police on 11/13/13.

Smith was charged with Unlawful Trespass, Petit Larceny, Unlawful Mischief and Credit Card Fraud. Smith was held in lieu of $5000.00 bail and flash cited for 11/14/13 and given Conditions of Release.

Jacobs was charged with Petit Larceny, Unlawful Mischief and Credit Card Fraud. Jacobs was released with a citation and Conditions of Release.

Jobe was charged with Petit larceny, Unlawful Mischief and Credit Card Fraud. Jobe was released with a citation and Conditions of Release.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.

On 11/13/13, Brattleboro Police investigated the report of an assault.  As a result of the investigation, Cote was arrested for aggravated domestic assault and held without bail.
