Motor Vehicle Accident

On 07/27/2015, Brattleboro Police responded with Brattleboro Fire and Rescue Inc to a motor vehicle accident on Putney Road. When police arrived they found a vehicle had struck a telephone pole in the area of Town Crier Drive. The driver sustained injuries from the accident and was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital to be treated. The accident is still under investigation and no charges are expected.

On 6/20/2015, Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle crash. Investigation led to the arrest of Teri Sherman, 55 of Brattleboro. Sherman was ordered to be held until sober and issued a citation to appear at court at a later date and time to answer to the charge of Driving Under the Influence.

On 6/19/2015, Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department, members of the Brattleboro Fire Department and Rescue Inc responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and car on High Street. High Street between Oak Street and Main Street was closed to the general motoring public at 4:39 PM and reopened at 5:14 PM. This crash is still under investigation.

Motor Vehicle Crash

On 5/29/2015, at approximately 11:43AM Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Western Avenue, east of Exit 2. Brattleboro Fire Department and an ambulance from Rescue Inc also responded to the crash. Traffic in that area of Western Avenue was restricted to one lane between 11:48 AM and 12:30 PM, causing some traffic congestion in the area. The crash investigation is considered complete at this time.

Accident Investigation

On Thursday, 04/30/2015 at approximately 20:15 hours, Brattleboro Police responded to Meadowbrook Road for a report of dump truck that had struck another vehicle and then ended-up in a brook. One operator was treated on scene for a minor injury. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The Brattleboro Police are continuing to investigate.

DUI with crash

On 4-23-15 Brattleboro Officers responded to South Main St. at the intersection of Valgar St. regarding an overturned motor vehicle. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Carlos R. Garza, 28, for DUI. Garza will appear in court at a later date to face the charge.

Accident

On 04/17/2015, at approximately 1224 hours, members of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to the roundabout by exit 3 in the Town of Brattleboro, VT for a report of a collision involving a 2006 International tractor trailer operated by Stephen E. Smith, and a 2009 Volvo operated by Kirsten I. Jaquith. During this time traffic was restricted until the scene of the collision was cleared. There were no reported injuries by the occupants of either vehicle.

Motor vehicle accident

On April 1, 2015 Brattleboro Police responded to Frost Street for a motor vehicle accident. When police arrived they found a vehicle had crossed the opposite lane, hit a parked car and pushed that vehicle into another parked car. The driver of the vehicle, Trent Johnson was issued a citation to court for negligent operation. A passenger was checked and released by Rescue Inc. on scene. Frost St was closed to all traffic for approximately 30 minutes.

Crash

On March 15th 2015 at approximately 1920 hours the Brattleboro Police Department, EMS and The Brattleboro Fire Department responded to Western Avenue near South Street for an accident in which a vehicle struck a house and a parked vehicle. No one was inside the residence at the time of the accident. It was determined that the driver of the vehicle was having a medical emergency at the time of the crash, and EMS transported him to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. There were no charges stemming from, and no injuries were reported as a result of, this accident.

Accident, Leaving the Scene

On 1/13/15 Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department investigated a possible hit and run car accident. Investigation led to the arrest of Debra Ferguson, 47 of Brattleboro. Ferguson was issued a citation to appear at court at a later date and time to answer to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

Motor Vehicle Crash Involving a Pedestrian

On 2/4/15, Brattleboro Police received a call from a male stating that he had struck a pedestrian with his vehicle on Flat Street at the intersection with Main Street. The pedestrian had claimed that she was not injured and left the area. No other damages or injuries were reported.

Vehicle and Pedestrian Crash

On 01/28/2015 at approximately 1757 hours police responded to Putney Road in the area of North Street for the report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

Investigation showed that Jesse Cross-Nickerson (30), of Brattleboro, was struck by a vehicle headed southbound on Putney Road. That vehicle was driven by Joseph Therriault (81), of Brattleboro.

Cross-Nickerson was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. Investigation is continuing.

DUI and Crash

On 01/16/2015 at approximately 2142 hours, Brattleboro Police came upon a two vehicle crash that had just occurred on Guilford Street by Living Memorial Park. There were two people in one vehicle that sustained non-life threatening injuries. Millerick was in the other vehicle and was arrested for DUI. She will appear in court at a later date for this offense.

Motor Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Crash

On 12/23/14 at approximately 1650 hours, Brattleboro Police responded to the intersection of Canal Street at Belmont Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash. The pedestrian was brought to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital with significant injuries and later transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock. The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was not injured. The road was close for about an hour while the scene was processed.

Motor Vehicle Crash

On 11/20/14, at approximately 2037 hrs, Officers from the Brattleboro Police department along with Brattleboro Fire Department, and Rescue Inc responded to Marlboro Rd for a head on two car motor vehicle crash. Marlboro Rd was shut down briefly while emergency personnel assessed the scene and treated the injured passengers, and police began an investigation. Marlboro Rd was opened to one lane of traffic while police conducted their investigation.

The investigation found that Joanne Bills 31, of Brattleboro, was traveling West on Marlboro Rd, and Stanley Turner 34, of Dummerston was traveling East Marlboro Rd. It was determined that Bills swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid an animal, colliding with Turners vehicle. Turner and his passenger Heather LaPrade 21, of Brattleboro were transported to the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. There are no criminal charges stemming from the result of the crash.

Motor Vehicle Accident

On December 9, 2014 Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department received a call for a minor motor vehicle crash involving a school bus.  This occurred at the bottom of Mather Road at the intersection with Greenleaf Street.  Upon police arrival it was determined that there were no injuries to anyone involved in the collision, including the 9 students on the bus.  The collision was partly due to winter weather conditions and operator error.  The school bus sustained very minor damage and continued with its route after the police investigation concluded.  The second vehicle involved was towed from the scene due to other non-related electrical issues.

Motor Vehicle Accident - Fatality

The following press release was issued on 10/17/14 at approximately 09:55 hours.


The Brattleboro Police Department is releasing the names of the two individuals
involved in the fatal motor vehicle crash on October 25, 2014 at approximately
19:46 hours.
 
The driver is identified as Kyle D. Aubert, age 17, of Brattleboro and was
pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The passenger in the car, identified as Baily M. Strange, age 15, of Brattleboro
was transported to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon NH where
she is currently being treated for her injuries.
 
The crash remains under investigation.  Anyone having information related to the
crash is asked to contact the Brattleboro Police Department at 802-257-7950, or
the TIPSLINE at 802-251-8188.

No further information will be disseminated at this time.

Detective Johnson

On 10/25/14 at approximately 19:45 hours the Brattleboro Police Department received a 911 regarding regarding a motor vehicle accident on Bonnyvale Road in Brattleboro, VT. Upon arrival emergency responders found a vehicle lying on its roof off of an embankment. Two occupants were found in the vehicle. The operator died on scene, and the passenger was life flighted to Dartmouth. Names of the occupants are not being released at this time.

Motor Vehicle Crash

On October 27, 2014 at approximately 12:30 pm the Brattleboro Police responded to Route 30 in in the Town of Brattleboro, VT in the area of the I-91 overpass for a reported one car motor vehicle crash. A motor vehicle crashed into a ledge and the operator was entrapped. The operator was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Brattleboro Fire department using the jaws of life. Members of the Brattleboro Police Department and the Windham County Sheriff's Department closed Route 30 while the crash scene was processed and the lone subject in the vehicle was attended to. Following extrication, the subject was then transported to the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital by members of Rescue Inc. The vehicle operator was identified as Lee Merrill, 65 of Brattleboro. The investigation into this crash is on going.

Accident

On September 29, at approximately 1213 the Brattleboro Police Department responded to 158 Western Ave for a pedestrian struck by a car. Upon police arrival it was found Leslie Butts age 50 had been struck by a vehicle driven by Darren Puffer age 45 of Vernon. Butts was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where he was being treated for non life threatening injuries. The investigation is still ongoing.
