Sgt. Carignan

On 1/25/14 at around 9:30am Brattleboro Police officers responded to the Brattleboro Area Middle School for a report that a 12 year old girl had been grabbed by another student.
Police conducted an investigation and charged a 16 year old boy with the unlawful restraint of a 12 year old girl.  The suspect allegedly seized the girl, covered her mouth, and restrained her.  The girl was able to call for help and the boy fled on foot.
Police located the boy and he was charged with this offense.   He was released from police custody under several court ordered conditions, including that he may not go onto BAMS/BUHS property.  The boy was released to the custody of a parent after being ordered to Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division.
The girl is a student at Brattleboro Area Middle School and the boy is enrolled as a student at Brattleboro Union High School.  Police notified the administration of both schools who have assisted and cooperated with the investigation.  At the time of this incident both students were attending an event sponsored by a community group that was taking place at BAMS/BUHS.  The activity was not a school sponsored event.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
